Busy busy... Thursday, February 25, 2010 @ 8:25 PM
Common test period over = Tons of scripts to mark. Now I know how it feels to be a teacher. Do you think there are "gone" cases? Matters that will just stay the same no matter what happens? Well anyway, I've been thinking about headache-inducing students in my school. Today I tried talking to that boy of mine (whom I've mentioned in my previous post, the boy whom I lost my cool to) and today I tried the "soft" approach. Seems like I can't appeal to his logic, although he was a bit more receptive (although he was still fiddling through stuff when I talked to him). I know my teacher is giving up on him already, and it'll be soon before I do too. Incorrigible is the only word I can describe him. He has went for countless classes at the responsible thinking class (like a detention class but they had to write reflections down), went for counseling with our resident counsellor, had his parents come down countless of times, and he still seems adamant to change for the better. Today I wanted to send him down for detention, and he refused to go down. I filled up a form, and went down to the detention room. Apparently he didn't even seem fazed when I came back and told him that if he doesn't go down the teacher at the detention room will call him. The teacher at the detention room knows him pretty well, and I could hear the resignation in his voice. Lamentable is the cynicism that he evokes in the people who know him. I asked him if he wants to continue going on defying every single person he meets, and how in the world is he going to get a job the next time if he continued with an attitude like this. All I got was a "lame" from him. I then asked him what did he want, and he said "peace". My knee-jerk reaction was a humourless laugh, telling him he's chaos himself. Did I mention that he believes he'll never grow up too? Seriously I think I can't appeal to his logic? He seems to be on such a high frequency I can't tune in to him? Sometimes it is these students that makes me pause and wonder about the education in SG. What is the use of studying your English Math Science if one can't even call a teacher properly? And these students are the people who makes you want to throw in the towel with a resigned sigh and fire your fighting spirit at the same time. But now that I think about it, maybe there are solutions to everything, it is just that we don't have/don't want to take the time to devote our time and energy to solving it. Sometimes it's not even worth our time. To hell with the "I feel a sense of satisfaction when I make a difference in someone else's life" politically correct shit sometimes. If not what's the purpose of death sentences? And ya I really think I need a life. PHWOARRRR GO MISS NEO! New pet peeve. Thursday, February 18, 2010 @ 11:19 PM I just discovered a new pet peeve! Be my colleague, call me after school hours and talk to me about work! Come on I've got a life man. No more Miss Neo once I step out of the school gate. You know humanity is doomed when... Saturday, February 13, 2010 @ 5:28 PM Seriously what kind of a talk show is that! Milking money out of people like that. The Maury Povich show is really screwed up, even if it's not real... Most-uncamp like camp. Wednesday, February 10, 2010 @ 8:10 PM Which was actually quite cool. Initially I thought I was going to sleep in tents, bathe in open cubicles and use smelly toilets with houseflies circling the toilet bowl, but I was wrong, WHICH WAS A GOOD THING. As somebody who has been sleeping on a single bed for the past 21 years, of course I'll choose the single bed. And good thing I didn't sleep on the double bed because the two teachers were complaining to each other that her blanket was robbed by the other. The food isn't 5 star hotel standard but it was pretty decent la. I'm not that picky. The best and worse thing about the place? The surroundings. There isn't a shop anywhere, there's no tv, and no computers. Time passes really slowly here, and all you're surrounded are hills and the calls of nature. Jetty jump~ I wanted to try but I didn't want to end up getting wet so I just sat there taking pictures of the kids. Indiana Jones. A bit tacky but is harder than it looks. 3rd day, Trekking! There are no man made trails, and I was so busy looking down at my feet trying not to trip over and to kill any leeches that may latch themselves onto me. ![]() Panorama of the place. Nice place! But super hot! We had this short cultural exchange session with the locals as well, and we learnt how to fry kerepek. I think the auntie must be thinking I cannot get married anytime soon because my kerepek looked so bad. School's been really busy recently, as well as life. Last Friday I attended the first wedding dinner in my life and it was such an experience! I was the english speaking MC for the night and the 7 course dinner was super filling. I almost gave up at the 5th course. I was rather nervous la but I think being used to standing in front of the classroom speaking to students with their eyes on you did help to calm my nerves a bit la. And I felt that I've never looked prettier, wahahahah! Anyway, I had no idea weddings costed that much. Crazy. With that kind of money I can already travel around the world liao. |
