Woah time flies man. Saying bye bye soon to another work week. Yay.

Still taking relief classes for the past few days, and for two days consecutively I got two technical classes for four periods straight each which almost made me vomit blood. Today's class was the most incorrigible and arrogant bunch of people I've met in the school so far, but the class was relatively better than what I expected. I suppose like what they say, better to give the upper secondary a bit of face because most of them are really at a stage where they think they know about a lot of stuff and whereby pride is the primary force that controls their actions. I mean I didn't like being shouted when I was in upper sec because I think I was almost just as good as the teacher. On the other hand the lower sec I consider them to be slightly better, although they have extremely short attention spans and high levels of energy. But they are an eager and honest bunch. They do things that made me wonder whether I should laugh or cry, and most of them are so naughty but so cute. Their candidness makes you wince but also makes you envious. When they know that you play a Naruto PSP game and they will want to talk to you.

I'm making mistakes everyday and learning from them, discovering myself and my students, exploring new perspectives and ways of doing things, and losing money for a new work wardrobe of clothes. It's hard work, but still die die must try la. I always tell myself, when you come out from a difficult class, you gain a chance to reflect on what you've done. Yah its really not easy but hey, what's life without a few challenges?

Gotta prepare myself for more challenges ahead man. Hope I get my timetable soon so at least I'll be assisting and doing teaching, not stopping the students from playing poker cards, PSP, catching them when they play catching and nagging at them to go back to their seats.

Attention class! Wednesday, July 22, 2009 @ 9:58 PM
First official day in school today immediately I got work to do. 4 relief periods consecutively, secondary 1 to 4. My under exercised legs already aching from all the climbing up and down. My first class was a sec 1 technical class, and man I bet the experience will stick with me as long as I don't get Alzheimer's. They were creating so much havoc I was laughing. Playing catching, playing their magic cards and poker cards (why they want to play that sia!), fighting with the "weapons" created from ice cream sticks. I was trying to stop this group and another group was going crazy and I was just moving from here to there, screaming myself hoarse. And the sec 2 NA or NTs from the next class who came to chup in weren't helping. The boys aren't bad natured la, they just have too much of energy and I didn't have the resources to distract them from, so its my fault la. But the girls were ok. I think the class must have been making so much noise until one teacher stepped in and confiscated their stuff. He just came in and the class was like SHING dead silence. The first thing I thought was "Woah when can I get this kind of power?" He sent half the class down to detention. Suay sia they, and I bet the senior teacher must have thought me to very incompetent.

Anyways there was a Malay language teacher not around so I had to take over a sec 3 and 4 malay class. The sec 4 NA class was having a test so I was there to warm the seat only. The sec 3 express malay class ok, they did their own stuff, but I did warn them not to get caught playing their handphones. The sec 2 express class still fine also, can handle, I shot some of them a verbally but they are a ernest and good natured bunch. The girls were guessing my age and even said I was earning easy money ahahaha! Overall very dramatic day la, in the morning also witness a middle age couple quarreling very loudly with a guy on the bus to school. The guy didn't want to budge for the couple because bus very crowded and they wanted to get off, so the auntie was like screaming "I WANT TO GET OFF LA!!!!!" in a very irritating high pitch squeal and the uncle just forced his way through and the guy was like elbowing him la. Aiya so ji dong for what, chill la.

Back home already~ Monday, July 20, 2009 @ 4:03 PM
My first day at work was er, not like the first day of work people would expect. I was supposed to report to school at 8 am but the official letter that came told to to report at 1.30pm which in turn made me unable to meet the principal, that was one. I was then shown to the conference room, and waited for about 15 minutes until I met the staff development dean, a woman in her thirties whose looks immediately made me stereotype her in the "modern career woman" category. She was nice enough, but I felt rather awkward around her. I think it must be because I'm no older than the students there and I felt like a total noob.

She briefed me through some stuff on school and what is and not, then introduced me to the VP. She reminded me of my Japanese teacher with her slight figure but obviously someone that shouldn't be messed around with. And although she only reached to around my shoulders I could feel her towering over me with her air of cynicism and the all too obvious years of experience. She briefly asked me a few questions, with the "modern career woman" helping to supplement some info for me. And although her attitude wasn't wasn't condescending I certainly felt intimidated. She asked me about my diploma, and what specialised skills I had, all very practical. I told her my interests is in art, but she didn't sound all too convinced when my diploma is in digital media design. She didn't seem to know how I could come in handy for the subject and guess what, they already have a allied educator for art. I think she formed an impression I'll be more suitable for computer applications because I mentioned "photoshop".

After our short talk did I realise that they accepted me into the school without having an inkling what to do with me. There's no timetable, they had no idea what subjects I could teach, whatever. I wonder how the in-between work was done by the MOE lor! Anyway I'll be reporting back to school on Wednesday in the morning, so hopefully they'd have worked out something for me by then. I don't mind observing lessons, but I certainly hope they won't just dump me into some rowdy class expecting me to handle them. The students are pretty rowdy there, and the teachers I've met all have this very cynical vibe around them. I wonder if its a teacher thing...

This coming Monday... Friday, July 17, 2009 @ 1:54 AM
...will end my slacking days. My 5 month slack zoomed pass faster than a f1 racing car. I think back what I've been doing for the past few months, and honestly I cannot give a proper answer. Mostly a dashing of everything I suppose. A very healthy dose of slacking at home, which usually comprises of watching tv, anime, doodling and what not, ah, creating some kind of disaster in the kitchen a few times a week recently. Meeting friends and depleting the last few hundred dollars left in my account.

Routine breeds boredom! Although I'm a creature of habit there's this ambitious (or responsible) part of that tugs me at my ear and shout into my ear (in japanese, that's how I try to practice or else I'll go rusty) I'll be a useless person and really need to stop slacking and quickly go find a job and EARN SOME MONEY. And so...I'm starting work next week. My mum's pleased that I landed myself a job in the government sector. I'm happy that she's happy, and I'll give my best in my work, and if possible when I'm more financially stable I'll get a degree in teaching. I have to keep reminding myself, and whether its convincing myself not, whatever. Like I said I'm a creature of habit. So be careful if I get used to you. I might just latch on to you like a barnacle on a rock. Am I rambling? I'm a bit sleepy right now cos I slept at 5 yesterday watching Gintama back to back. It feels good to lead the life of an otaku.

I went for my checkup today. I kept laughing during the examination because it was so ticklish. The doctor's (female, thankfully) fingers were cold and I just kept laughing and tossing about. I must have been so stupid. Anyway I can't believe I am starting work next week! Not after resting for so long. There's an equilibrium in wanting to continue slacking and wanting to work. Humans are weird. But what can I say? 指をくわえ! (This is the real suck thumb meaning in the jap context; yubi wo kuwaeru.)

Goodbye General! Wednesday, July 8, 2009 @ 12:09 AM
By the time I post this General Zhao should probably be waltzing with Kangaroos in Australia. On the 4th of July we held (some sort) of a farewell dinner for him. Actually its more like a mass gathering with the other alumni but of course we couldn't tell him that and I think I'm quite safe because he probably wouldn't read this and already miles away aha~

Such a huge group of seniors I felt a little intimidated and quickly hurried to find my batch.

Actually we had a more important mission! To wrap General Zhao's (lovely) present.

Because we forgot to buy the wrapper Amanda selflessly tore out some fabric from her blouse for us.

CJ was the only senior to come and approach us at that point of time to ask how we were doing ha.

Woohoo!

Alison really lost a lot of weight leh...

The 10th batch~

Mk trying to get in touch with his feminine side.

I'm happy that you joined the ranks of "guys who carry handbags for their girlfriends", mk! Wonder when would I influence one to do so...

The only girl wearing a skirt that day, zhang sheng gu li gu li!

I love them.

Mikio looking badass.

Tsukemen~ this one not bad la, but the one with pork bone and seafood stock was a bit too salty for my taste.

Mk looks like a clown.

Is it just me or is Amanda getting cuter even when she gets older?

Selina I prefer your red hair!!

The old birds.
